Jedoch beide, Marlow und Willard, sehen sich, nachdem sie diese Episode ihres Lebens überlebt haben, als Bote der Kurtzschen Botschaft. Das Zusammentreffen mit Kurtz hat beide stark geprägt. Egal, ob Kurtz nun getötet wurde, oder verstorben ist, die Situation, mit der sich Marlow und Willard am Ende konfrontiert sehen, ist eben diese. Sie haben einen neuen, selbst gegebenen Auftrag.
