Gentrification ist als Ursache bestimmter Entwicklungen in der postfordistischen Gesellschaft zu betrachten, zu denen die Tertiärisierung, Veränderungen in den Lebensstil- und Wohnortpräferenzen bestimmter Gesellschaftsgruppen, die Globalisierung der Weltwirtschaft und die damit einhergehende Veränderung der lokalen wirtschaftlichen Bedingungen und Politikansätze zählen.
Diese Arbeit gibt anhand der aktuellen Literatur einen allgemeinen Überblick über die Ursachen und Wirkungen von Gentrification, die beteiligten gesellschaftlichen Akteure sowie die Bedingungen, unter denen Gentrifizierungsprozesse stattfinden.
