Jahrhunderte eine große Bedeutung und Verbreitung gefunden hat. Keine andere Tragödie wurde
so oft bearbeitet. Immer wieder hat es Bearbeitungen, Neufassungen, Umdichtungen und
Vertonungen gegeben. Mit der Antigone wurden auch gleichzeitig aktuelle Probleme und
Konflikte verarbeitet und im Blick auf das antike Drama diskutiert.
Die einzelnen Elemente des Dramas sind ebenfalls griechischen Ursprungs. Der ‚Protagonist’
und der ‚Antagonist’ stammen beide von dem griechischen Wort ‚agon’ für Kampf ab und sind
sogleich Helden als auch Gegenspieler der Tragödie. Das Wort ‚Tragödie’ stammt aus dem
Griechischen von ‚tragos’ ab und bedeutet Ziegenbock und Ode, also Bockgesang. Der Held der
Tragödie, in diesem Fall die Antigone, leidet an ‚Hybris’ (= Hochmut), wird dafür jedoch durch
sein ‚Pathos’ (= Leiden) bestraft und aufgrund der tragischen Ironie, so genannter scheinbarer
Glücksbegünstigung, in die Katastrophe, auch Schicksalswende genannt, geführt.
Der Hauptschwerpunkt dieser Seminararbeit liegt auf der Charakterisierung und Erläuterung der
beiden Hauptfiguren Antigone und Kreon in den verschiedenen Antigone-Fassungen von
Sophokles, Jean Anouilh und Bertolt Brecht.
Mit der folgenden Übersicht, dem Stammbaum des thebanischen Königsgeschlechts, möchte ich
die Personenkonstellation als Einstieg in die Thematik verdeutlichen.
