Das Ziel des International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), dem Verfasser der Vorschriften, wurde wie folgt definiert: „Im öffentlichen Interesse einen einzigen Satz an hochwertigen, verständlichen und durchsetzbaren globalen Rechnungslegungsstandards zu entwickeln, die hochwertige, transparente und vergleichbare Informationen in Abschlüssen und sonstigen Rechnungslegungsinstrumenten erfordern, um die Teilnehmer der verschiedenen weltweiten Kapitalmärkte und andere Informationsadressaten beim Treffen wirtschaftlicher Ent-scheidungen zu unterstützen.“
