Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2007 im Fachbereich Kunst - Sonstiges, Note: 1,8, Georg-August-Universität Göttingen (Kunstgeschichtliches Seminar), Veranstaltung: Hauptseminar: Umgang mit zeitgenössischer Kunst, 12 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Im Jahr 2002 fand vom 8. Juni bis zum 15. September 2002 mit der Documenta11 die erste documenta des 21. Jahrhunderts statt. Die größte internationale Ausstellung für Gegenwartskunst zog mit einem Etat von rund 18 Millionen Euro mehr als 651.000 Besucherinnen und Besucher nach Kassel, was bis dato einen Besucherrekord darstellt. Doch was viele dieser Besucherinnen und Besucher nicht wussten, die elfte documenta begann eigentlich schon ein Jahr zuvor und das nicht in Kassel und nicht einmal in Deutschland. Im Vorfeld der Ausstellung gab es nämlich vier weltweite Vortrags- und Diskussionsforen, bei denen Diskussionen über Voraussetzungen der Kunst der Gegenwart und über zeitgenössische Problematiken von Politik und Gesellschaft geführt wurden. Diese Foren wurden als Plattformen bezeichnet und bildeten das Grundkonzept der Documenta11.
Diese Konzeption wird im ersten Teil dieser Arbeit vorgestellt einschließlich der künstlerischen Leitung der D11. Des Weiteren wird auf das Erscheinungsbild, das die grafische Gestaltung und die Ausstellungsarchitektur mit einschließt, eingegangen. Im Folgenden wird diese Arbeit die Zusammensetzung der Künstlerinnen und Künstlern der documenta mit Hilfe von Statistiken beleuchten und analysieren. Ausführlich werden allerdings nur als eine kleine Auswahl zwei Künstlerinnen und ein Künstler vorgestellt, bei denen es sich um unterschiedliche Typen von Künstlerinnen und Künstlern und Künstlergenerationen handelt.
Den Abschluss bilden die Kritik der Medien und aus Fachkreisen an der D11 und ein zusammenfassendes Fazit zur Documenta11.
